VERDICT

Ideal for a busy B2B/B2C environment where time is at a premium but the efficacy and veracity of the web site is paramount. WebAgain will ensure that your web site is available, reliable and has integrity.

Eliminating the need for time-consuming manual web site repair and maintenance, WebAgain is a very impressive web site anti-defacement utility with, by the way, a very good sense of humor when it comes to packaging the product. Keeping a 24/7 vigil over your web site, it ensures that your visitors see what you want them to see. While it runs under Windows NT/2000, WebAgain can protect sites hosted on any operating system.

Having designed and authored your web site pages, you send them to WebAgain, where they are archived and subsequently published to public web sites and mirrors. You continue using your preferred publishing tools, the only difference being that when you are ready to post, you simply direct the web publishing software to publish to the built-in WebAgain ftp server. Because multiple revisions of a web site are archived, you can restore your web site to a specific point in time. This, along with a Rescue Kit facility, which places a complete copy of your web sites on a backup disk for offsite storage, should give you some peace of mind.

Described as publishing ‘once to many,’ all web site updates sent to WebAgain are simultaneously published to multiple mirror sites, automatically keeping your mirror locations in sync. WebAgain then checks the web site and mirrors for hacking intrusions at user-defined intervals. If defacement is found, the defaced pages are republished instantly and copies of the hacked pages are sent to a quarantine area for offline inspection. Email notification is then sent to the webmaster, letting you know if or when your web site has been changed or restored.

With B2B and B2C now becoming de facto, a product like WebAgain will be in serious demand, especially with its capability to automatically repair defaced or vandalized web sites. WebAgain detects any changes made to your web site, including image alterations, re-routing of links, email and online submission forms.

Information warfare at the commercial level and industrial espionage would be significantly slowed down by implementing a utility like this, as it will even pick up subtle changes buried in text, such as product availability and pricing changes. Remember that WebAgain monitors all web site data in folders and subfolders and will automatically detect when you make a change to any file and publish the result for you.

WebAgain consists of two components, server and administrator. Server runs as a Windows NT/2000 service and performs all the tasks associated with protecting your web site. WebAgain’s ftp server is designed to work only with your web site files and cannot be used in place of your general purpose ftp server, and there are good security options available to restrict access to this ftp server. Administrator is used to define and modify the server configuration and it is your visual link to the WebAgain server.
